Open Hand in Zambia

At the end of March we had an amazing opportunity to work towards our vision and mission in a new and unexpected way!
We were invited to partner with BFIRST (the British Foundation for International Reconstructive Surgery and Training) to contribute towards the development of the first hand therapy service in Zambia. It was a privilege to be a part of the work that BFIRST are doing there!
Kirsty and Nicola spent 5 days at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, attending surgical clinics and ward rounds, participating in hand therapy clinics, and giving presentations, workshops and tutorials.
We were inspired by the passion and hunger for knowledge of the therapy team. It was a privilege to share treatment ideas, problem solve around resource constraints and contribute towards service development. We are so grateful to the therapy team for their kindness and hospitality!
