Hand-Injury Care for All

Learn how to develop hand-injury care in challenging contexts, including setting up services and addressing various environmental and even personal challenges.

We are joined by Dr Kiran Agarwal-Harding, founder of SONA Global, who gives a broad overview of the global unmet need for hand-injury care. He highlights the dire situations prevalent in low income countries and describes strategies for responding to this need which address four essential aspects: research, education, advocacy and resources.

Terri-Ann Abrahams was the first, and initially only occupational therapist at a district hospital in one of South Africa’s fastest growing townships. She shares from her challenges and successes in setting up a hand therapy service with no dedicated space and minimal resources, drawing out principles that will encourage and inspire anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation.

Nicola Ehlers takes us through steps to advocate for patients who get poor outcomes due to incorrect treatment. She uses an inspiring example from her own practice to show how creating change is possible and can have a huge impact on the lives of patients.

Erica Conibear defines stress and trauma, and helps us to understand and evaluate how they are affecting us. She shows us the importance of taking care of ourselves and equips us with strategies to build resilience in the face of overwhelming challenges.
