Off to Cape Town for the SASSH annual congress
The South African Society for Surgery of the Hand held their 53rd annual congress in Cape Town from 24 to 25 August 2024.
It was a busy weekend filled with interesting presentations covering a wide range of topics in hand surgery and therapy. The talks included original scientific papers as well as guest lectures from international speakers.
We had the opportunity to present about the Open Hand Therapy Initiative at the congress. Nicola presented on the challenges of providing hand therapy in a resource constrained setting, highlighting the need for contextually responsive educational resources such as those provided by the Open Hand Therapy Initiative. Kirsty shared the results and feedback from our first two webinars, demonstrating the success of our project to date and highlighting future directions for our initiative. The talks were well received and generated a lot of interest from both hand surgeons and therapists.
Congratulations to Kirsty and Nicola for winning the prize for the best therapist research presentation!
